Automation In Leadership | Have You Become A Leader-Bot?

It seems like everywhere you look these days, automation is on the rise.

Automated manufacturing processes, autoresponder emails, and automated direct messages on social media.

Efficiency is the name of the game.

But, there are some things you can’t necessarily automate. Like customer service, for example.

Now, already some of you are saying to yourself, oh, yes you can automate customer service!

Well, you can automate RESPONSES, but when is the last time you came away raving about an automated customer service attendant or chat bot?

You know what else you can’t automate?  Leadership.

Teams are made of people. People need direction. They need encouragement. They need someone to instruct them and teach them what success looks like, so they can know how to recognize it when they get there. They need someone to care enough to not only go to battle with them, but to lead them to victory.

Simply put… Teams don’t need robots, they need strong leaders.

Automation In Leadership… NO!

Have you become a “Leader-bot?”

Have you gotten lazy toward the mission? Has it been awhile since you’ve given your team solid, well-thought out direction? Has your passion to lead been dying a slow death?

It can happen to any leader, at any time. Leaders get tired like everyone else. They need recharging.

That’s why it’s so important to have mentors and people around you that have the ability to notice when you begin to become a “Leaderbot,” trying to automate the leadership process.

Here’s a practical next step. In the article about the Top 5 Leadership Fails, I talked about seeking wise counsel and having mentors. Call a role model or mentor today and ask them how they have battled burnout and disinterest in their leadership journeys.

It’s nothing you should be embarrassed about. It’s actually one of the best ways to grow in your leadership capacity.

And I’ll bet that after that conversation, you’ll have some encouragement to help you get back on the path to finishing strong.
